Education and Advocacy to Navigate and Prevent Live Animal Strikes
About the project
We X Roads Too aims to address the lack of education and resources for young drivers regarding live animal strikes. Inspired by a personal experience with her parents' accident involving a deer strike and her own Driver's Education experiences, McKinley's project aims to raise awareness, provide education, and advocate for solutions to minimize the risks and impacts of such incidents. Key components include:
- Awareness and Education: Creating resources to help young drivers understand how to avoid and manage live animal encounters on the road.
- Advocacy for Policy Change: Encouraging Girl Scouts to advocate for safe animal crossing zones, deterrent fencing, and other measures to reduce animal strikes.
- Support Resources: Offering guidance on when to involve veterinary, police, or other authorities after an animal strike.
- Emotional Support: Providing tools to help drivers process the emotional impact of being involved in an animal strike.
The project's overarching goal is to equip young drivers with the knowledge and resources to reduce animal strikes, advocate for safer roads, and navigate the challenges of such incidents with confidence and compassion.
